Cuppas add up for BooBee fundraisers

- PATRICK JACK

AFUNDRAISING coffee morning in support of a breast cancer campaign has been held by a woman currently undergoing treatment for the disease.

Heather Glover, from Macclesfield, hosted the coffee morning for BooBee, which aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer and encourage regular selfchecking.

Macclesfield MP David Rutley was among those who attended the event.

He spoke with Heather and others from the charity, to learn more about their experiences and the much-valued support that BooBee has offered them.

They also highlighted the importance of regular self-checking for the signs of breast cancer, which can be a vital way to detect any issues as early as possible, leading to swifter diagnosis and improving patient outcomes.

A total of £1,400 was raised on the day, which will all go directly towards supporting the work of Prevent Breast Cancer.

BooBee was founded in March by Prestbury resident Margo Cornish, with the aim of educating women about breast cancer risks and helping to protect future generations from breast cancer.

Mr Rutley said: “While positive progress is being made to improve breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, there is much more to be done. BooBee is a great campaign that promotes greater awareness of the signs of breast cancer, and helps protect more women from it in the future.

“It was moving and inspiring to hear directly from Heather Glover and other women who have benefitted from the support from BooBee, and I wish all involved with the charity every success going forward.”

Prevent Breast Cancer is a Manchester-based charity which is located at The Nightingale Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, and is conducting ground-breaking research to help make breast cancer a disease of the past.

The campaign is working to gather the stories and experiences of residents in the north west who are affected by breast cancer and promoting them more widely.
