Youngest take some of main roles in sparkling annual show

-

MORE than 50 pupils took part in a school’s annual production with some of the youngest students occupying the two main roles.

Tytherington School’s performance of All Shook Up took place across four consecutive evenings from Monday to Thursday, July 15-18.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, the musical follows a small Midwestern town that is thrown into a frenzy with the arrival of Chad, a good-looking, motorcycleriding rebel, who rides from town to town with a guitar on his back and blue suede shoes on his feet.

Repressed by their conservative mayor, the town begins to come alive once more under Chad’s influence.

The main roles of Chad and Natalie were played by Ben Coldwell (Year 7) and Kyra Pascal (Year 8) and Headteacher Manny Botwe said they did a “great job”.

He added: “Yet again our Performing Art departments have put together a fantastic show.

“Well over 50 students across the full age range took part in the show. It was great to see the lead roles been taken by some of our youngest students.

“At a time when education seems to be dominated by talk of league tables, statistics and numbers, I’m delighted that we have chosen to make time for young people to develop their full range of talents, whatever they may be. I’m extremely proud of the students and staff who put on such a wonderful show.”

The show contained several Elvis classics including Jailhouse Rock, A Little Less Conversation and Hound Dog.

The Tytherington School Company played to several hundred people over the four days.

The musical was produced and directed by Rachel Fellows, Head of Drama, and Drama teacher Jess Higgins.
