Rushi shows potential in Green loss

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY travelled to Hawk Green, who won the toss and decided to bat. The visitors opened the bowling with Rekesh Alex and Cameron Kirkland and the spinners found little in the wicket.

Hawk Green raced to 88 off 13 overs before Prestbury had their first wicket when Josh Hampson was bowled by Kirkland for 41.

Prestbury captain Steve Oldfield brought Raul Mehta, aged 14, on for his first eleven bowling debut and in his third over he claimed a wicket when he had Peter Richards caught by Alex for 20. Jack Needham came into bat and was fully intent on pushing the score along and hit 51 off 21 balls but fell to Yassin Khan, LBW.

Hawk Green were well in charge at 190 for 3 off 23 overs but at 221 Khan got his second wicket bowling David Higginbothan for 11.

Paul Needham was closing in on his century but fell for 97, LBW to Aqeel Ahmed, a super innings. At that stage Hawk Green declared at 30 overs with their score at 256 for 5.

Prestbury’s bowling figures read Khan 2 for 39,Raul metha 1 for 41 and kirkland 1 for 63.

After tea Prestbury were looking at batting for 60 overs, and had a terrible start when Ahmed was out LBW first ball of the innings, and the other opener Kirkland was out bowled for 1.

It meant two new batsmen at the wicket in Tom Livesley and Oldfield but with 20 runs on the board Livesley was out for 11.

This brought Mehta – at 14 like his twin brother Raul – in for his batting debut for the first eleven.

Oldfield was run out with only two more runs on the board but new batsman Bryn Thompson joined Rishi and they batted for 18 overs, taking the score to 71 before Rishi was out, bowled.

His 21, made off 56 balls, showed great maturity.

Another wicket fell at 71 when Will Dowd was bowled for 0.

Raul Mehta came into to bat but was bowled for 4, Max Cowling Jones hit a big six but fell for 8 and at 102 for 8 the end was near as Downey wrapped up the innings with a hat-trick with Khan 0, Alex 0 102 off 30 overs this leaving Thompson 41 not out off 76 balls.

Prestbury men of the match Byrn Thompson and Rishi Mehta.
