Bowman: We were fortunate

EXETER matchwinner Ryan Bowman admitted his side were fortunate to emerge from Saturday’s clash against Macclesfield with all three points.

The Grecians were second best for long stretches of the game but Macc were unable to take their chances and capitalise, Bowman making them pay with a late winner.

“First half, I think we all know, myself included, that we can do a lot better,” he said. “Macclesfield seemed to dominate large parts of the first half in most areas of the pitch to be honest. At half-time, the manager got into us, not in bad way but he got us going and got us raring to go and second-half we were much better and thankfully we got the breakthrough.

“We have got to better and we have got to put that right for next week. The main things is that we got the result in the end though.”

Bowman’s goal was one of very few chances for the Grecians during the 90 minutes, but Tom Parkes also had a header blocked on the line. At the other end, Lewis Ward made a couple of saves but City were not really troubled other than when Dean Moxey had to put a sliding challenge in to deny Joe Ironside a tap in.

“There wasn’t too many chances. I had that header first half and Parkesy (Tom Parkes) had that header in the second half, where Marts (Lee Martin) has blocked it on the line, but there weren’t too many chances,” said Ryan.

“They (Macclesfield) didn’t create a lot of chances either. Wardy (Lewis Ward) made a couple of good saves but apart from that it was working of scraps.

“However, we have got that first game out of the way. It is always going to be tough no matter who it is against, home or away, because you never know how the opposition is going to set up. Now we have got that first game out of the way we can only look up from now on.”
