Experienced Harris up for the challenge

-

JAY Harris has become the latest new recruit to reveal that manager Sol Campbell was the main reason for him joining Macclesfield Town.

Harris arrives on a one-year deal after previous spells with the likes of Accrington Stanley, Tranmere Rovers, Wrexham and Chester City, and the Everton Academy graduate is looking forward to playing for Campbell.

“I am glad to get it over the line.

“I knew the gaffer was interested so I had a chat with him and then I came in for a few days training, earned the contract, and here we are now.

“The gaffer is a big name and he has got great ambition for the club, so speaking to him showed me that the club is going in the same direction that I want to go.

“The lads are all positive, they are a great set of guys with some good quality in there and hopefully we can add some more to that. My career started at Everton, a very long time ago! Then onto some of the local clubs like Accrington Stanley, Chester, Wrexham and then my last club Tranmere.

“Obviously with back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons and being involved with the majority of it, yeah, it was a great couple of seasons.

“[I’m] full of energy, nasty, horrible to play against and I can also pass the ball; so hopefully that can help. On a personal level, I want to cement a place in the team for a start and beyond that I just want to win games.

“As a team I think we just need to improve on last season, and I don’t think we can look any further ahead than that. I think you have got to take the positives from last year too.

“I think there was a point in the season where the club looked doomed and looked like getting relegated; and then before you know it the gaffer comes in, changes things around, and before you know it they are out of the relegation zone.

“So yeah, you can take the positives from last season and continue it again this season.”
