Archibald’s platform to playing

-

NEW Macclesfield Town signing Theo Archibald is excited to be provided with a platform to play football after joining the club on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

Having come through the youth ranks at Celtic and then moving onto Brentford, Archibald has now joined Macclesfield and made his debut on Saturday.

“I’m happy to be here. Just looking forward to the season starting, and glad I got it over the line before the first game of the season,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s hopefully a platform to play. I know last year had some difficulties on the pitch, but this year there seems to be a buzz around the place.

“It’s professionalism from the start - I trained with everybody for a couple of days a couple of weeks ago and I enjoyed it.

“Good squad, positive outlook on things and hopefully a good season coming up. There does seem to be a good camaraderie within the group - I saw that straight away.

“It’s just the kind of place you want to be. It’s hopefully going to be a positive season for me personally, for the team and for the club.

“My career started at Celtic. I came up through the academy and then got to about under 20s and just didn’t see a window of opportunity there.

“I moved down to Brentford two summers ago, which was good, but again there wasn’t quite that pathway for me to break in regularly.

“I went on loan last season to Forest Green and enjoyed it.

“Now hopefully this season signing on a permanent basis will be a good platform to play more games and get some experience under my belt.

“I represented Scotland up until under 21 level, although I’ve not been involved for a little while. It’s always nice to play for your country when selected and it gives you a different experience - you play abroad quite a lot, you play against different types of players and different styles. Hopefully this season will be my first full season of men’s football and I earn the right to play.”

“I would say I’m energetic, I work hard for the team. I like to think I’m quite fast, which can help playing on the wing.

“I’ll give it my all and hopefully provide assists and pop up with the odd goal here and there as well.

“I don’t think there’s a boundary.

“People might write you off after last season but there seems to be a far more positive atmosphere about the place.

“I don’t think there’s necessarily a target but game by game keep breaking barriers, try and win as many games as possible and see where it takes you.”
