Bride surprises partner with birthday wedding
ABRAVE bride decided to give her partner a birthday surprise - by asking him to marry her there and then at his party.
Laura Halstead, 34, had told boyfriend Joe Kidd, that the bash at Swythemley and Heaton Community Centre, in Macclesfield, was solely for his 30th celebrations.
But as the party got into full swing she slipped away, changed in a wedding dress and welcomed a vicar as a special guest.
Meanwhile Joe was blindfolded and upon Laura’s return she gave a speech that ended with her getting down on one knee.
A gobsmacked Joe - who happily said ‘yes’ - then had his blindfold removed to see that ceremony was ready and waiting.
Laura
said: “I just thought I’d surprise him, to start with I was dressed like it was any other party.
“But I was 100 per cent certain he would say ‘yes’, he has been asking for ages.
“He was shocked as I’m not normally one to do things like that, I wasn’t nervous at all - people couldn’t believe how calm I was.
“I decided to do it about three weeks earlier, everyone is so busy I thought it would be one of the only times we would get all our family and friends together.”
The couple, who own car business Macclesfield Trade Centre, live off Rainow Road, Hurdsfield.
They have a baby son called Rupert and Laura - now Laura Kidd - has son Toby, 14, and daughter Charlee, nine, from a previous relationship.
Toby was one of a handful of accomplices who she had told of her plans. But the vast majority of the 250 guests arrived completely unaware of what was about to happen.
Laura said: “I was quite excited but I thought the more people I tell the more chance there is Joe will find out so it wasn’t hard for me to keep it quiet.
“It went really quickly, it was amazing and everyone said it was the best way they had sen a wedding done.
“I wanted everyone to be relaxed and not worry about what they were going to wear and just enjoy the party.”
The couple will now go on honeymoon but Laura is letting Joe chose the destination as she made the decisions about their wedding.
