Calder’s best not enough for visitors

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY were egded out when they travelled away to Wilmslow.

Prestbury skipper Steve Oldfield won the toss and opened with Robin Farmer but they didn’t have the start they wanted, Oldfield bowled for 0 and Farmer bowled for 5.

It was soon 10 for 3 when Ankur karmokar was run out and things didn’t get much better when 15-year-old debutant Ridley Partridge, after facing 25 balls, was bowled for 5.

Prestbury managed to move the score on to 28 but Finlay Calder was out for 5. Aqeel Ahmed and Tom Livesley, with some lusty blows, put on 44 in nine overs but a ball kept low on Ahmed and he was out for 34.

Max Cowling Jones joined Livesley but they only managed to add 12 runs before the new batsman was out for 4.

Livesley went to play a big shot and was bowled for 25. Alex Insley made 4 and Yassin Khan 5 and the innings finished at 96 with Rakesh Alex 0 not out.

After tea Wilmslow had 58 overs to get 97, but opening bowler Calder bowled Dixon for 4, and with 17 runs on the board had K Bhanderi caught Ahmed for 11.

Wilmslow reached 21 when Calder struck again, catching off his own bowling Healey for 13. Calder was in the wickets again when he bowled R Bhanderi for 9 and Rowe was Calder’s next victim, caught by Farmer for 3.

This gave Calder 5 for 28 off 8 overs, but Harding and Cuniffe steadied the side, taking the score to 76.

Prestbury battled on and Ahmed bowled Cunliffe for 3. Harding was joined by Narayanay and they saw Wilmslow to the target.

Harding 25 not out and Narayanay 22 not out.

Calder finished with 11 overs 5 for 38 his personal best figures, Ahmed 1 for 15.

Calder was Prestbury man of the match. The spirit of the team defending a low total was excellent in the field.

The thirds played on Sunday away at top of the table Cheadle Hulme and with tight bowling restricted the opposition to 120 for 8 off 40 overs, the wickets shared around, Ridley, 2, Will, 3 and Toqeer 1, and two super catches by Adam Partridge.

In reply at 55 for 5 looked like a tough ask for Prestbury but Nikhith 33 supported by the lower end batsmen got Prestbury to 121 for 9 with Gopal hitting the winning runs with six overs left. Well done to skipper Jack Cookson and the whole team.
