Kerridge so close to beating Trafford

- CRICKET JOHN GRAYSTON

ON Saturday 17th Kerridge welcomed Trafford Metrovicks to Clarke Lane hoping for a break in the bleak weekend forecast.

The start was delayed by around 45 minutes as rain clouds passed over the ground.

Trafford won the toss and sensibly decided to field on a damp wicket that the covers had struggled to keep dry.

Kerridge began their innings steadily with the Trafford bowlers consistently hitting challenging lengths and regularly passing the bat.

Kerridge struggled with these bowler friendly conditions and were soon reduced to 17 for 3 wickets.

With three wickets falling without a run being added, Jason Hanaghan and James Knight came together at the crease.

They began their partnership steadily but started to cash in as the opening bowlers tired and back up options proved to be less threatening.

They added 67 runs for the fourth wicket with what felt like a telling contribution on a low scoring wicket.

Hanaghan was dismissed for 35 and Knight top scored the Kerridge innings with 38.

Kerridge batsman then came and went until they were all out for 121.

The two opening bowlers for Trafford MV shared 9 of the Kerridge wickets with Saqib taking 26 for 5.

Trafford began their response at a sedate pace with what few chances Kerridge could create falling agonisingly out of their fielders reach.

The Trafford opener Sankara then stated to up the scoring pace and it wasn’t until 60 runs were on the board before the first wicket fell. Then wickets began to tumble as Jason Hanaghan began to ease into his bowling spell.

Trafford were reduced to 116 for 9 wickets as their batting line up failed with the exception of Sankara who was eventually dismissed for 79. The final batsman for Trafford managed to get the away team over the line in what was a nail-biting finish. Hanaghan finished with excellent figures of six wickets for only 13 runs from 9.3 overs.
