Students succeed
ASCHOOL headteacher said he will continue to allow his pupils to study what they want - not subjects which “purely satisfy league tables”.
At Tytherington School 55 per cent of students achieved strong passes in English and Maths and nearly 75pc of Year 11 students achieved standard GCSE passes in English and Maths.
Headteacher Manny Botwe said: “Importantly, our results have been achieved in the right way.
“We are proud that we have always held fast to the principled belief that we should do what is right for our students and not what will purely satisfy league tables.
“We know that our league table position will suffer because of this, but we will continue to do what is in the best interests of our students.”
He added: “A special mention must be made to Mr Caine’s Maths class. Mr Caine sadly passed away at the start of the year and his Maths class
and tutor group coped fantastically well. We are proud of their achievements.”
He also highlighted the story of an inspiring student who had overcome the odds to achieve great results.
Ella Bailey has the honour of being the student who has made the greatest progress from key stage 2 (primary school) to the end of key stage 4 (GCSE). Despite having many health challenges throughout her five years at Tytherington, Ella has always had a positive and sunny disposition.
The school said she has made the most of all opportunities and been an inspiration to many. She achieved two Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and one Grade 6 which places her nearly three grades higher in every subject than pupils nationally with a similar profile.
The highest attaining student was Sami Hatna, who achieved nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8. Since joining from Parkroyal School, he has been an exceptional student who also plays for the Macclesfield Brass Band.
The following students achieved five or more of the very highest grades (7-9): Sami Hatna, Toby Morton-Collings, Matilda Bird, Fiona Bridge, Lewis Peal, Ella Bailey, Harry Gascoigne, Sophie Pounder, Poppy Dutton, Emily Mansfield, Abigail Sadler, Ailsa Addie, Molly Bareham, Connor Laffan, Anashka Calero, Benjamin Milne, Frankie Gittins, Lily Beech, Louis Bostock, Eve Halsey, Emily Fairfoot, Madeline James-Lee, Finlay Proffitt, Finley Lonyon, Jim Sidaway, Ben Yardley, Madeleine Blunn and Cameron Mitchard.
Here are the GCSE results for those who sat exams at Tytherington High School in 2019:
*As some subjects are still using the former system of grading for results (A* to G), some schools or pupils will have two sets of numbers.
First set of numbers = total number of A*-E passes with A*-C grades in brackets. Second set of numbers = total number of new 9-1 grades with grades 9-4 in brackets.
