McMahon: Squad has what it takes to succeed

-

DARYL McMahon believes the young players in his Macclesfield Town side have got what it takes to achieve success this season.

The Silkmen have had a good start to the campaign, and find themselves in fourth place in the League Two table having won three of their five matches so far this season.

Macclesfiield have a young squad at their disposal, but McMahon is confident that they will be able to keep up their good form and have a successful campaign.

“We are a very young team and as the season goes on, there will be a lot of bumps in the road, but we’ll stick with the young players and improve them,” he said. “I believe in them, they’re good players and a massive reason why I came to the Football Club. The players that we have and that we can develop is really exciting, and they will learn from everything.”

One of the learning curves came last Tuesday when Macclesfield were beaten 1-0 by Morecambe, and McMahon hopes his young players can cut out any mistakes moving forward.

“I said at half-time that the only way that Morecambe can beat us with the way that we played in the first half, is if we don’t score and we make a mistake,” he said.

“That’s exactly what happens to us and in the second phase of the set piece we make a mistake. It’s a silly goal to give away.

“They showed their experience later on as well, slowing the game down but I thought the minimum we deserved out of the game was a draw, if not all three points. Fair play to Morecambe, they came here and sat behind the ball and made it difficult for us to break them down. They showed us massive amounts of respect.”
