BIG PICTURE

-

that the best site for those still needing in-patient care was within the district general itself so as to make a statement that ‘mental health was equal to physical health’ and should therefore be close together

That settled it and Millbrook was built.

It was opened by HRH Princess Anne and has done a sterling job.

In the last year or so I have been as dismayed as much as others that patients using Millbrook are to be housed elsewhere and some moved to Chester for treatment.

To learn now that it is to be demolished to make room for the Christie cancer care centre has closed a difficult and sad chapter for me.

It will put cancer treatment in the right place, at the heart of our local hospital yet preserve its identity too.

The staff at Macclesfield hospital are the best people I ever had the privilege to lead and they will, as always, do everything they can to deliver this fantastic project for us all. Now let’s get them the money for it! Peter Hayes, Salters Lane, Siddington

MP’S POSITION STILL MYSTERY

FROM mid-August I’ve been in correspondence with David Rutley’s office.

One point I wanted to understand his position as regards the potential undemocratic action of suspending of parliament at a time of national crisis.

I had additional questions, including whether any assessment had been done as regards the impact within his constituency of leaving the EU without a transitional arrangement ie ’no deal’.

His reply ignored my questions. Instead it provided a high-level summary of what his preferred outcome was.

I wrote a second email seeking a response to my questions. The reply was obtuse and again gave an answer to a question I hadn’t asked.

Undeterred, I’ve written a third time but now against a backdrop of PM Boris Johnson having taken Robert Mugabe type action and suspended parliament to stymie democratic action. I should stress what I’ve sought is to understanding the position of my MP. I’m not expecting that our views will necessarily align but I would like to understand his position and proposed future actions. John Ramsey, Gritstone Drive, Macclesfield
