COMING so soon after the floods in 2016, the recent serious incidents in Poynton, and also in Bollington and Kettleshulme, have caused deep and widespread concern for many residents.

That’s why I am calling for a full and thorough investigation into the recent flooding incidents to be completed as a priority.

It is also vital a clear action plan is taken forward and communicated to residents, to address the current flood damage and ensure that there is enhanced resilience and preparedness for any future heavy rainfall.

These important issues were at the top of the agenda at an urgent meeting I organised recently with senior representatives from the Environment Agency and Cheshire East Council, alongside Poynton Town Council.

The Environment Agency is currently working to assess the overall extent of the flooding in the local area, gathering essential data that will be needed to inform future planning.

As well as this, Cheshire East Council will be conducting a Section 19 flood investigation report, as required by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, to set out the causes and impact of the recent flooding and to put forward a recommended plan of action.

A full programme of works is also underway to clear drains and gullies in Poynton and repair damage to local infrastructure, including Wards End Bridge on Moggie Lane.

I will continue to press for action on this vital issue for local residents in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, anyone who has been affected by the flooding, but has not logged this should contact the Environment Agency’s incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60. Conservative MP for Macclesfield
