Danny destroys Malpas as Kerridge climb

- JOHN GRAYSTON

KERRIDGE got their season back on track and enjoyed a welcome rise up the table after a well drilled fielding performance and destructive batting from Danny Brown crowned a well deserved victory.

Kerridge travelled to Malpas and were greeted by a green pitch with bowler friendly skies. Kerridge won the toss and elected to bowl their seamers hoped to take advantage of what looked to be favourable conditions.

Malpas built a steady opening partnership with runs hard to come by as the opening bowlers kept the run rate down whilst regularly threatening the batsman.

James Knight was first to strike for Kerridge removing the opposition captain Keith Rickett for 24.

This then opened up the flood gates and wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Knight completed his 14 overs conceding only 32 runs and taking 3 wickets. Seby Babu took a vital top order wicket on his KCC debut.

The Malpas innings was wrapped up by the introduction of spin bowling at both ends. Steven Regan and Danny Brown bowled in tandem to take the last 6 Malpas wickets and dismiss them for 111.

Regan finished on 4 for 30 from 7 overs and Brown 2 for 7 from a miserly 6.3 overs.

Kerridge enjoyed the tea break confident of chasing down the 111 to win.

Danny Brown scored the vast majority of Kerridge’s runs with an unbeaten 86, only denied an inevitable century by the chasing target being so low.

Danny batted as if he had a bus to catch, stylishly depositing the Malpas bowlers into the fields adjoining the cricket pitch. Clearly demoralised, the Malpas bowlers had no answer to this calculated aggression with Kerridge running out easy winners after only 16 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Kerridge hope to keep this form with bat and ball going into next week as they welcome Glazebury to Clarke Lane.
