Man knocked out cold by brick in homophobic attack

Victim says he’s scared to leave house after horror incident

- ALEX SCAPENS

THE victim of a vicious homophobic attack has been left frightened to leave his house after he was smashed in the face with a brick.

Jordan Mason, 22, was walking home along Ingersley Road, Bollington in the early hours of the morning when antigay abuse was shouted at him.

As he turned to see who it was a man holding a brick hit him, knocking him unconscious to the floor.

Jordan says he came round about two hours later, lying cold and sodden with rain on the ground.

The attack happened on Sunday, September 1, between 4am and 5am after he had worked at the Holly Bush pub, on Palmerston Street, and then enjoyed a few drinks.

Jordan, who also performs as drag act Miss Electra Bleu and is well known for being active in the Pride movement, believes it was targeted.

He said: “I heard this guy and I turned round to see this rock coming towards my head, I don’t remember anything else until waking up and it was daylight.

“I was so shook up, I still am. I don’t want to go out anywhere, I stay at home

with the curtains drawn. The odd time I do go out I’m constantly looking over my shoulder.

“The big questions are why and who? I could be talking to someone and not knowing if it was them. Why has someone got a vendetta, it was a (anti) gay attack - it’s just weird.”

Jordan, who lives in Bollington with his partner, was badly cut and bruised and needed medical treatment.

The couple are due to get married next month and he is hoping the wounds heal in time for the big day.

After moving to Bollington 12 months ago and working in several pubs and hotels, Jordan says he has not encountered any trouble before.

He said: “I’m quite well known around Bollington and I’ve found it to be a nice place where people are friendly and kind. I’ve spoken about this because I think people need to know to watch out and be careful, you are not always safe.”

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “A 22-year-old man was walking along Ingersley Road in Bollington when he heard someone behind him shout a homophobic comment.

“He turned around and a man hit him on the head with a brick causing him to fall to the floor and lose consciousness.”
