Nicole gets muddy in memory of tragic mum
AYOUNG schoolgirl who lost her mum to liver failure has completed a gruelling challenge to raise money in her memory. Nicole Kitchin, 10, from Hurdsfield, took part in the one-mile Lidl Mudder assault course at Cholmondeley Castle and has so far collected nearly £1,000. It was a real team effort with friends from Parkroyal Commu n i t y School also taking part as well as staff and
other parents going along.
Brother Charlie, 14, helped with her fundraising and he went to cheer her on at the event with their step-dad Brenden Watt.
Nicole was inspired by her late mother Rachel Phelps, who tragically died earlier this year aged 37 but had previously herself been a fundraiser with events including a skydive and half marathon.
Brenden, 42, of Garden Street, said: “She was amazing, they are two great kids. It was brilliant to see her do this.
“At the funeral Nicole said to me, ‘Daddy I want to start raising money’, and I thought it would be a good thing to get her mind off what had happened.
“And it was 100 per cent a good thing, both of them have done amazingly.
“It has helped me too, it has given the whole family something to focus on.”
Rachel had visited the doctors and was originally told she scarring on her liver.
Around four months later she was informed she had liver failure and passed away six months ago
Nicole is now looking for her next charity endeavour to raise money for the British Liver Trust.
The family has thanked Parkroyal Community School for its help.
Bethany Johnson, Nicole’s teacher there, said: “Nicole is truly inspirational. She and all of the children, teachers, parents were smiling the whole day and showed amazing teamwork.
“We have raised over what we have expected for Nicole’s charity.
“I know how much this means to Nicole and her family and I know her mum will be so proud of her.”
