Inquest told woman died after taking cocaine

-

A WOMAN died from heart failure after taking cocaine, an inquest has heard.

Shabina Miah, 33, of Berwick Close, Macclesfield, was found my her mother Angela, unconscious and unresponsive in bed at her home on the afternoon of February 11 this year.

She was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

A hearing at Macclesfield Town Hall heard evidence in written form from Miss Miah’s fiance, Luke Tomlinson, who said she had been an occasional cocaine user, and had some of the drug around two weeks before her death and had said she wanted to get some more.

The hearing heard that Miss Miah had suffered from a range of medical problems including Type 1 diabetes and anxiety and depression.

She also had, hemochromatosis, a disorder where too much iron builds up in the body, known as ‘iron overload’.

Giving evidence to the court, Miss Miah’s mother Angela Miah said in the weeks prior to her death, her daughter had been ‘very, very, confused and unable to answer simple questions’.

She told the court that the night before her death she had visited her daughter’s home, which she shared with Mr Tomlinson, after a misunderstanding about a Facebook post.

She said: “I’d seen a video of her attending a circus on Facebook. My iPad was playing up and instead of liking it I posted an ‘angry face’.

“I pressed a few times again to try and undo it but it wouldn’t work so all she saw was several angry faces.

“She blocked me on Facebook so I walked round. She was very angry and distressed.”

The court heard that concerned about her welfare she asked Mr Tomlinson, who was using a separate bedroom, to check on her the following morning.

He did so at 7am, letting their dog into her room saying she ‘was face down and crying’.

Miss Miah’s mother became increasingly concerned for her daughter’s welfare when she couldn’t contact her that day and went round to the address at around 2pm, letting herself in and finding her daughter’s body in bed.

She said: “I called 999 but I knew she had gone from us.”

A police investigation found no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement in Miss Miah’s death.

A snap bag containing traces of white powder was found at her bedside.

A toxicology report found cocaine in her urine and blood which could have led to heart failure. A pathologist’s report concurred with this and said her diabetes could also have been a contributing factor.

Assistant Cheshire coroner Michael Wallbank concluded that it was a drugs related death.
