Mum on run halfway to finish in race challenge
AMUM is more than half way to her fundraising target for a children’s charity.
Janey Brant, 40, from Ivymeade, completed the Race the Sun Challenge in the Lake District - an 80km bike ride, a climb up mountain Helvellyn and a 3km canoe.
She is raising money for Action Medical Research as her son Joshua was born three months premature.
He was then in intensive care after contracting the life-threatening bowel infection necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) but pulled through thanks to prompt medical attention and is now a healthy 18-month-old.
Janey took on the challenge with members of the Ice Maidens - the British Army members who became the first female team to cross the Antarctic on foot in 2017 - to do so.
Among them was Major Sandy Hennis, who is the partner of Janey’s brother. So far she has raised more than £850 but her target is £1,500 so donations are still gratefully received.
Janey, an underwriter, said of the challenge: “I was absolutely determined, I’d done a lot of training and I really didn’t want to let my teammates down.
“It was a long day and I was absolutely exhausted, but the hard part’s over. I’m determined now to hit my fundraising target.
“We started at around 8.15am and managed to cross the finish line in 9 hours 58 minutes.
“It was tough, but
Iabsolutely loved it! I cannot thank my teammates enough – they were amazing and so supportive.”
