Macc must be quick learners

-

MACCLESFIELD Town head coach Daryl McMahon insists he side need to learn from their mistakes extremely quickly if they’re to have any chance of a successful season.

The Silkmen had dropped to 13th place in the League Two table having failed to win any of their last three games ahead of the midweek fixtures, including a 3-0 defeat at Swindon Town on Saturday.

McMahon was frustrated with the result against Swindon, and hopes that his players can buck their ideas up and improve on their efforts.

“We weren’t good enough in the opening exchanges. We have to learn from it and we need to learn quickly,” he said.

“We are young as a group - we all know that, but you can’t use that excuse every week because you need to learn on the job unfortunately. I thought we started better second half but not being able to carry it on through the half isn’t good enough.

“I want us as a team and as a club to have higher standards than that by really trying to raise the bar at our football club.”

“We know we will have these games in the season, where we’ll be like a rabbit in the headlights because of our young group.

“The crowd, the stadium and the size of the club can sometimes get on top of you and I think that shook us a little today.”

“For us as a club we need to know where we stand. I think that with the dramatic end to last season combined with our promising start this campaign, people can get a little bit carried away with their expectations.

“There is going to be ups and downs, but we have to get through them. We will react positively, there is no doubt about it. We can’t dwell on it; we have to see what we can improve, and we move on.

Macc were scheduled to play on Tuesday as the Express went to print, as they were set to welcome Newport County to the Moss Rose.

Ahead of the match, Newport were in fourth place, with 15 points from their eight games so far this season.

make the trip to Grimsby Town. McMahon’s side will be looking for revenge in the match, after Grimsby knocked Macc out of the Carabao Cup last week. Grimsby won the match on penalties to set up a third round tie with Premier League ” side Chelsea. Grimsby earned a point last Saturday, coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Oldham Athletic, with Jordan Cook and Ludvig Ohman scoring for the visitors in the final 10 minutes to ensure they secured the draw.
