‘Loving’ grandad, 73, dies after road collision with car
A ‘LOVING’ grandad has died after he sustained serious injuries in a road accident.
Brian Greenwood, 73, was killed in a in collision with a gold Mercedes on London Road North, Poynton, on Sunday, October 27, shortly before 7pm.
He had been on foot and was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, where he passed away a short time later.
The family of Mr Greenwood, who is from Poynton, are being supported by specialist officers and have issued a tribute to him.
They said: “Brian was a loving husband to Janet, Dad to Chris and Claire, Father-in-law to Richie and Jill, Granddad to Oliver and Lucie, Brother to Marilyn and Brotherin-Law to Kath, Phil and Ian. He was 73-year-old and a fit and active member of the local Poynton community.
“We would like to thank the emergency services and members of the public for their help during this incident and ask for our privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”
Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which happened near the junction of Woodside Lane, and say enquiries are ongoing.
Sergeant Nick Rogers, of Cheshire Police’s serious and complex collision investigation unit, said: “Enquiries in relation to this collision are ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information which may aid our investigation.
“The same goes for anyone who believes they have dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation.”

Poynton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs and causing death by driving without due care while over the limit for a controlled drug.
The man has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
