Decisions go against spirited MBBC boys
BOXING for MBBC was young George Oliver against Oscar McCann from the home club Salford City Boxing Academy.
After some delay due to championship contest, the kids entered the ring late considering their age off 11.
Oscar was quite a bit taller than George when they squared up at the start off the bout, but both kids where boxing brilliantly, showing great skill with phased attacks and great control. At times it felt like the referee was forever pulling young George up which was putting him off his game and frustrated him. This showed as the bout went on as every time he started to get on top off Oscar the referee would intervene.
By the time the final bell went the decision was already decided as the local boxer got the win. Both lads did well but had the referee let them work it may have been a different ending.
On Saturday at
Coastal ABC Show in Morecambe, young Sam Coates made the trip to Lancashire to take on Coastal boxer Alex McMillan. This was a well matched contest on paper with both kids having similar records.
In round one Alex looked to have the longer reach, towering over Sam. Unintimidated and ready for battle,
Sam pushed forward throwing combination with Alex grabbing holding and tying Sam up at every opportunity.
This round was a scrappy to start with, and round two was better round for Sam as he was allowed to box.
But it wasn’t long before Alex started to spoil the contest again smothering Sam’s work, pushing his head down, then the ref pulling Sam up telling him to keep his head up. All off these frustrations where building up as the third round started, Sam really wanted to have a boxing match but it wasn’t to be as Alex preferred a scrap and he was back dominating proceedings pushing on, holding and doing all he could to stop Sam from working. As the third round ended, the judges made their decision, siding with the local boxer preferring his spoiler style to Sam’s pressure boxing.
Not a brilliant weekend for the MBBC team as two losses is an hard pill to swallow especially if two very close contest.
