Sylks’ young players take to centre stage

-

WITH Macclesfield Town Ladies FC cup tie against Sandbach postponed for the second week the spotlight switched to some of the younger teams.

MTLFC UNDER 18S......... 1 CHESTER NOMADS........ 4

WITH half the squad only 15 years old at the start of the campaign the young under 18s struggled in the early part of the season and suffered some heavy defeats. However, since the appointments of new coaches Alex Brito Nogueira and Kieran Dignan-Smith there has been a big improvement in performances.

On Sunday they faced another of the top teams (only one of their opening fixtures has been against a team outside the top six), a league match at home against Chester Nomads, who had won easily in the last encounter. In the first 15 minutes Macc more than matched their opponents but without testing the visiting keeper.

Chester scored to quick goals from long range but the Macc girls refused to wilt and came back into the game when some good attacking play forced an own goal. were totally dominated by us, good possession but failing too many passes in the final third, suffered two goals from long range and an own goal.

Just before half time Chester scored a third after an excellent move to lead 3-1 at half time. The second half was very equal but a defensive error allowed Chester to extend their lead. Macc missed a few opportunities to reduce the arrears which would have given the result a much better reflection of the game.

The team is clearly headed in the right direction and with the willingness to engage in extra training and the effort being shown on the pitch results will improve.

MTLFC UNDER 15S......... 3 CREWE .............................. 3

THE U15s got their Champions League campaign underway after an enforced 2 week break due to the weather. Crewe

FC were the visitors and showed their intentions by scoring with their first attack. The first half finished with honours even at 1-1 after Lily Fallon equalised but

Macc were facing their toughest opposition so far this season.

The second half was much the same, with good attacking play, but very uncharacteristic mistakes in the defence never allowed Macc to take control.

A goal for each side had the score tied at 2-2 with Chloe Craddock netting for Macc. Girl of the game Molly Millward scrambled the ball across the line to give Macc the lead with minutes to go, only for Crewe to break through and level the score at 3-3 with pretty much the last kick of the game.

An entertaining game for the neutral, but a game the girls know may come back to haunt them later in the season

MTLFC UNDER14S.......... 6 NORTHWICH VICKIES... 0

MTLFC U14s made it 4 games unbeaten with a 6-0 victory over Northwich who to their credit never let their heads drop. From the first whistle Macc were on the attack but struggled to break down a committed visiting defence. After relentless pressure Macc finally got the breakthrough they needed through Holly Hurst. WITH confidence rising the girls started knocking the ball around well and were always dangerous and ran out comfortable winners with further goals from Holly Hurst , Jade Reed(2), Beth Lomas and Jaydine Tse.

Girl of the game went to Jaydine Tse who had her best game of the season. From central midfield she thwarted every attack from Northwich and ran the game for MTLFC.

It was a great weekend for the U11 Sylks. Three new players (Anabelle Jones, Lily-Mae Tipton, and Matilda Jackson) made their debuts and both games were close affairs.

All three new players made their debuts against the Hurricanes, and all enjoyed the game.

They were supported well by the more senior players, and all came off with smiles on their faces.

The Sylks scored twice through Abi Poulton.

Her Girl of the Game performance saw her working box-to-box all game playing crucial roles in both defending and attacking as well as adding the goals.

Another close game for the Sylks came against Vale Juniors, with both goals coming from Bella Reed.

The Sylks started the game really well, with Bella Reed having three excellent chances saved by the Vale Juniors keeper.

The deadlock was finally broken with a great individual goal from Bella, who chased several lost causes and was rewarded with a well deserved goal.

Girl of the Game performance came from Bella who played the second half in defence and made several crucial tackles and interceptions.

The Under 9s girls did really well in their first game against Barnton.

Phoebe Denham and girl of the game Autumn Greensmith worked the midfield well and created lots of chances for Nellie Carney in the striker position who scored a great goal.

The second half saw a handball from the opposition in the box so Autumn stepped up to the pressure and scored a fantastic penalty!

Jocelyn Ball battled throughout in defence and didn’t allow the opposition any opportunity to score.

The girls then worked together as a team against Congleton Rovers but struggled to get into the final third because of some tough defending from the opposition.

Girl of the game Poppy Hague had a good chance but Congleton’s defender stood strong.

Sadie Stanley worked hard in the girl’s defence but the opposition managed to bag three goals. This new young girls team are starting to gel and growing in confidence as the season continues.
