Fantastic Mr Fox is out to conquer world

- FLORA BYATT

ADETERMINED 10-year-old has qualified for the world championships in Spartan racing.

Sporty Fox Allman, from Macclesfield, has been doing Spartan racing for three years as a hobby and has now competed successfully in enough races to qualify for the championships in Los Angeles.

Spartan racing is a form of obstacle course racing, and Fox is following in his dad Paul’s footsteps.

The Whirley Primary School pupil also swims competitively for Macclesfield Satellites, and plays football for Bollington United.

He competed in four Spartan runs after turning 10 in May, and will jet out to Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 4.

Dad Paul, 47, said: “It’s something I’ve done for about five or six years and Fox always comes to the races with me.

“He’s been doing it for about three years, and it was just to have fun but now he’s turned 10 it becomes quite serious because you can enter the championships.”

Fox is part of a team, OCR Boys, handpicked kids from up and down the country with values focusing on integrity and being kind to others.

Paul continued: “Kids from all over the world compete in the championships. It was livestreamed on Facebook last year and there were about 300 children.

“Fox is in the 10 to 14 category.

“This is the second year the kids championships have been held.

“Fox did his first competitive race three weeks before he turned 10 as I wanted him to get the experience, and he finished third.

“I’m incredibly proud of him. He loves it and he’s always been a sporty kid.

“It has been quite expensive this year in travelling - entering the races, going up and down the country and accommodation.

“Fox has also raised £2,000 himself since July by doing cake sales and contacting local businesses who have agreed to sponsor him.”
