BIG PICTURE

HERE’S what you have been saying over on our Facebook page:

ON the news that an old building that contained two closed pubs - the Kings Head and the Three Pigeons - and the former Skoltex school uniform shop, was torn down over safety fears (Nov 27):

Rhiannon-Jane Raftery: Should have been compulsory purchased years ago, sadly symbolic of Macclesfield.

Martin Smith: This regretful situation illustrates why we have to do more to ensure our heritage buildings are maintained. This can be achieved by residents introducing legislative backed policy through a Neighbourhood Development Plan.

If you want to help to preserve Macclesfield’s heritage assets join the Macclesfield Neighbourhood Plan Facebook group.

Karen Ozz: This is absolutely disgusting, these buildings could have been saved by restoring and repairing when required. [The council is] a disgrace and not fit for purpose to let this happen. The buildings are/ were the heritage of Macclesfield.

Lewis Evans: Looked a mess anyway. Build something new at last.

Chris Oldman: We should start a poll of what monstrosity we think they are going to build in its place, with the shocking architecture of the new TK Maxx, I think we need to think big!

ON the news that several pubs in Macclesfield are to offer free soft drinks to designated drivers over the Christmas period:

Pete Lake: Bravo...be great if all did, to be fair when you drive most are sensible enough not to drink, and also are prepared to pay for soft drinks, or non alcoholic beverages, too many take the risk and we all know people who do it.

These Greene King pubs are taking part in the campaign: Brocklehurst Arms, Manchester Road; Rising Sun, Congleton Road; Blacksmiths Arms, Chelford Road; Butley Ash, London Road. The campaign is offering free soft drinks, including Coke and Diet Coke, Appletiser or an alcohol-free bottle of Heineken to drivers.

All you have to do is show your keys to the bar staff at any Greene King run pub when you buy your first soft drink, and they’ll give you some vouchers for a free second drink.
