Full details can be found on the East Cheshire Mumbler website.

CHRISTMAS FAIRS/ MARKETS

Why not get into the festive spirit whilst also supporting your local community by heading down to a Christmas

Fair or Market?

Love Bollington’s Christmas Market is happening on Sunday, December 8, from 11am until 3pm with an array of Christmas stalls and a visit from Santa, as well as music from the Bollington Brass Band.

School fairs are always a nice way to spend a festive afternoon and a couple which are yet to take place.

These include Marton and District Primary, School Lane, Macclesfield on Friday, December 6, at 2pm and Mottram St Andrew Primary on Saturday, December 7, from 2pm to 4pm at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall, Wilmslow Old Road.

FESTIVE DAYS OUT National Trust places are always a good bet for a festive family day out but the ones in Macclesfield (Hare Hill and Alderley Edge), being outdoors, don’t offer much by way of festive fare.

Luckily, East Cheshire has so many lovely National Trust spots you don’t need to travel far to get somewhere really special.

You could head over to Tatton Park’s ‘A Fairytale Christmas Mansion’ which sees the house transformed into a visually stunning celebration of 10 fairy tales.

Dubbed an ‘enchanting journey through dark magical woodlands and enchanting forests’ you can wander through

Aladdin’s Palace, the Beast’s Library and the Witch’s Gingerbread House before stumbling upon Cinderella’s pumpkin in the Winter Wonderland.

Opening times and dates vary and tickets cost £10 for adults, £7 for children and there’s a £7 vehicle charge.

December 6 is ‘Festive Friday’ at Tatton.

There’ll be festive music in the mansion and you can have a selfie with Santa before heading to the cellars to write him a letter and make a decoration.

The festivities continue after dark with a Christmas shopping fair and the restaurants will be open late.

It’s a ticketed event - £10 for adults and £7 for children (free vehicle entry from 4pm). You can book via the Tatton Park website.

Over at Little Moreton Hall you’ll experience Christmas like the Tudors with the hall’s ’ Yuletide’ offering.

On various days throughout December, the hall will have decorations, displays and entertainment and on Fridays there will be food displays for you to sample some festive Tudor treats.

At weekends, the hall will be filled with entertainment from jesters as well as live music and storytelling.

‘ Yuletide’ is a free event but normal admission prices apply.

No need to book in advance.

Other local National Trust festivities include a reindeer trail at Quarry Bank Mill - spot the reindeer hidden in the gardens for a chance to win a prize - before taking a well earned rest on Santa’s sleigh which will be parked outside the mill.

See how those who lived at the Mill would have decorated their houses and experience Christmas like one of the children who worked there.

Lyme Park, in Disley, will have choral performances and decorations with a Christmas Day feast laid out in the dining room and the drawing room will be dressed for a winter wedding

PANTOMIME

What could be more festive than a family trip to a pantomime?!

At Crewe Lyceum Theatre the offering this year is Peter Pan starring comedy duo Cannon and Ball alongside Chico of X Factor fame.

The show runs most (but not all) days from 13th December - 5th January.

Prices vary depending on the date and time but as a rough guide, range between £17.50 and £27.

BEST OF THE REST And also worthy of a mention:

Carols - On Thursday, December 5, from 6pm to 6.30pm, Macclesfield will be holding the ‘ Tree of Light’ where carols are sung around the town centre Christmas tree in memory of loved ones.

Other carol singing events suitable for the kids include Singalong Stableyard Carols at Tatton Park from 3pm 4pm on Sunday, December 22, and the family carol service at the Salvation Army, Roe Street, Macclesfield, on December 22 at 10.30am. Christmas Classes

- School holidays mean that most of the toddler groups which parents of babies/ toddlers often rely on take a break.

The good news is that a lot of those groups run Christmas specials which are open to everyone (you don’t need to be a regular class goer).

Toddler Sense, for example, is running Christmas Specials at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall on

Thursday, December 19 - tickets are £12 per child and include an hour of festive fun, refreshments and a gift.

Tumble Tots is also holding Christmas themed classes at Macclesfield Leisure Centre from December 16 to 20.

Local Libraries - check out your local library for their programme of

Christmas events for kids which are often drop in and free (or just 50p/£1).

Macclesfield Library has carols round the tree on Friday, December 13, Christmas Rhymetime with seasonal songs and a visit from Santa on December 16 and 17, LED Christmas card making on December 18 and December 20, Seasonal Storytime on December 20 and a festive drop-in craft session on December

21.

Bollington Library has a Father Christmas Hunt running from December 18 to January 4, a Christmas Jumper Rhymetime on December 20 and a Christmas craft session on December 21.

Alderley Edge Library has Christmas crafts on December 13 and 19.
