Band tunes up to earn brass for Christie
MACCLESFIELD Youth Brass Band are lending support to put some wind in the sails of the Christie at Macclesfield campaign.
The group has added its name to the bill for the Christie Christmas Concert, at St Michael’s Church, Macclesfield Market Place, on December 17.
Members are also aiming to do more fundraising for the cause next year.
Louise Renshaw, musical director of the band, said: “We are excited to be supporting the Christie Macclesfield.
“Macclesfield Youth Brass Band brings together not only our young musicians but also their families who give their support to make it a success.
“There’s no doubt that many of these families will have been affected by cancer and they will recognise the outstanding opportunity that Macclesfield has been given to secure, on our own doorstep, the amazing services offered by the Christie.
“It’s often the case that we don’t realise the full value of something until we need it ourselves.
“Being diagnosed with cancer is the start of a journey, which really impacts on your life whilst you undergo what is often daily treatment.
“The new Christie Macclesfield will minimise that impact on patients in a practical way which will help enormously.”
The band, which is itself a registered charity, has 120 members aged between seven and 18.
Claire Ferguson, senior community fundraiser at the Christie, said: “We are very grateful to Macclesfield Youth Brass Band for supporting the Christie at Macclesfield fundraising appeal by performing at our first Christmas concert.
“We are looking forward to hearing them and would like to wish them the best of luck with their performance.”
The concert, which will also feature radio personality Mark Radcliffe and Fallibroome Academy’s choir, is on from 7pm to 9.15pm.
Tickets cost £12 (£8 children and concessions), available from www. chr i s t i e s . o r g / christmas, Classworx Schoolwear in Macclesfield or by calling 0161 446 3988.
