Ladies avoid Sandbach repeat to progress in cup

- MACC TOWN LADIES

MTLFC .............................. 3 SANDBACH UNITED...... 1

FOLLOWING two postponements because of the weather Macc

Town Ladies finally got their county cup fixture underway, but it was Sandbach Utd Ladies who started stronger.

Against the run of play player/coach Charlotte Rowcliffe tried a delicate chip from inside the penalty area, which beat the keeper to give Macc Ladies a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The team started with more intensity after the break and looked like they wanted this cup match.

With the game still evenly balanced, Macc’s substitutions worked a treat with the fresh legs helping the team. Nicole Ronan yet again stepped up, having another great game whilst scoring with a great strike from outside the box to put Macc two up

But Macc had been in this position before against the same opponents just weeks earlier and on that occasion couldn’t hold out for the win. Sandbach scored to make it 2-1, but Macc were determined that this wouldn’t happen again and striker Charlotte Booth stepped up to finish the game off with five minutes to go, putting them 3-1 up. Macc Town Ladies progress to the next round where they will be away to Northwich Vixens with the tie due to be played in January.

MTL UNDER 15S ............. 5 RUNCORN LINNETS ...... 0

THE U15s.welcomed Runcorn Linnets on Saturday. The girls were not to be put off by the cold weather and were on the front foot from the off. All the football was played in the Runcorn half but it took twenty minutes to break the deadlock, with Lily Fallon driving one inside the post.

Chloe Craddock added a second before the half was out, putting Macc in the driving seat.

The second half was as enjoyable as the first with wave after wave of Macclesfield attacks bringing a further three goals. One was a well deserved goal for girl of the game Tez Kelly, and a further brace for Lily Fallon taking her tally to over 20 for the season.

MTL UNDER 12S ............. 4 POYNTON ......................... 3

THE U12s were involved in a top of the table clash this weekend with leaders Poynton hosting second placed Macc on the 3G in the Stockport league.

Despite the bitter cold the spectators were soon warmed up by the sizzling fast attacking play of Macc as they took control of the game from the kick off and were 0-2 nil up in no time with well finished strikes from Teigan Mcnally and Megan Hunt.

Poynton pushed to get back into the game and after a couple of mistakes at the back by Macc were gifted two easy goals against the run of play which made it 2-2.

The second half was just as fast paced with Macc piling on the pressure which was rewarded with a great strike from outside of the box low into the bottom left corner by

Josie Broadhurst to make it 2-3. Poynton pushed again and equalised with only five minutes left.

It looked set to finish a draw which would have been harsh on Macc.

But with only one minute remaining another thunderous shot from Macc from outside of the box produced a great acrobatic save from the Poynton keeper but she could only parry the ball away. Megan Hunt was quickest to react to the loose ball and neatly rounded the downed keeper to slot in the winner from a tight angle

The win takes Macc back to the top of the league. Girl of the game for Macc was Rebecca Thraves.

MACC TOWN SILKS U9S VS CREWE U9S

THE girls did really well in the cold weather! Girl of the game Freya Pettener showed real promise and defended very well against Crewe who pushed throughout the game.

Elsie Wall and Izzy Dawson both had chances to score but unfortunately couldn’t get it over the line. Midfielders Maddie Barlow and Anja

Thomson made it difficult for Crewe and helped the Silks keep a clean sheet. Ffion Barlow managed a couple of excellent saves and although the game was scoreless the Silks played very well.
