Silkmen boss: We can beat anyone

-

MACCLESFIELD Town head coach Daryl McMahon insists the talent in his squad makes them capable of beating any of the teams throughout League Two this season.

The Silkmen have failed to win any of their last five league matches, with the latest of those coming on Saturday when they held play-off hopefuls Bradford City to a 1-1 draw at the Moss Rose.

It means Macclesfield are currently in 14th place ahead of this weekend’s home match with Crewe

Alexandra, and McMahon has complete faith in his players to end their search for a victory.

“Anyone who knows me knows I want to win every game and we know we’ve got the players to do that,” he said.

“It was a tough game against a very good Bradford side on Saturday. I’m pleased with the efforts and the application of the players.

“I think everyone knows this is a tough place to come, we’ve played most of the big sides in the league here now and we’ve done well against them.

“Bradford started on the front foot, they’ve got some really good players and we were hanging on to their coat-tails early on, but the group I’ve got fight hard, we work hard and they got into the game.

“We know we will always create chances but in general play Bradford had the better of it early on.

“It was a good header from James Vaughan for Bradford, I’ll have to see it back to see how he got in there, and how we gave away a needless free-kick. But these things happen and we had chances to win the game.”

Jak McCourt had opened the scoring for

Macc from the penalty spot just after the half hour mark in the game, before James Vaughan got the equaliser for Bradford with around 15 minutes to go. Connor Kirby was also sent off during the final minutes of the match, meaning he will be missing from the clash against Crewe on Saturday.

It will be a difficult game for McMahon’s side, with Crewe currently sitting in third position in the table, having won ten, drawn four and lost just five of their 19 games so far this season.

Their last league game ended in a draw, as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Forest Green Rovers last Tuesday.

They were also in FA Cup action over the weekend, drawing 1-1 away from home against National League side Eastleigh, meaning the two teams will now have a replay.

It was a high-scoring affair when Macc and Crewe met in this fixture last season, with the two teams playing out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Moss Rose back in February.
