AMAN who assaulted two of his neighbours in their own home then attacked police officers attempting to arrest him, a court heard.

The violent behaviour of cafe owner Russell Wag Beaver, 37, left his neighbours ‘fearful in their own home’, Stockport Magistrates’ Court heard.

Police needed to deploy pepper spray to a ‘laughing and resisting’ Beaver to subdue him at his home on Belgrave Road, Macclesfield at around 11.30pm on October 31.

Prosecutor Tina Cunnane told the court that Beaver’s female neighbour answered a knock on her door late that evening.

She said: “The woman said the defendant appeared intoxicated and she asked if he had been crying because his face was puffy and swollen.

“He pushed her in the chest and came in the house saying he wanted another drink.

“Shortly after he punched the woman’s partner to the right side of the face with a clenched fist. The couple then phoned the police.”

The court heard that when officers arrived a Beaver’s address he told them ‘you had better bring the riot squad because it’s going to take eight of you’ and threatened to bite an officer’s nose off.

Father-of-six Beaver, who owns Fred’s Cafe, on Moss Lane, then grabbed and pulled at the hair bun of a female officer leaving her in pain and assaulted another officer.

The officers deployed pepper spray on Beaver in the kitchen of his house before arresting him.

Miss Cunnane said Beaver was ‘laughing and resisting’ throughout the exchange.

When interviewed later Beaver made admissions of guilt and said he had been drinking heavily in a pub since 4.30pm that day and had no recollection of the assaults.

Victims impact statements from the two neighbours were read to the court.

The male victim said he was ‘worried about he and his partner’s security’ while the woman said the attack left her ‘in complete shock’ and she was now ‘fearful in my own home’.

Defending Khalid Bashir said his client was ashamed and embarrassed about his actions and said he would like to apologise to all those affected.

Beaver had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating and two counts of assault on an emergency worker.

The bench sentenced Beaver to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

He was handed an community ordering under which he must complete 20 days of rehabilitation.

He was also fined £50 and ordered to pay £75 each in compensation to the neighbours and £100 each to the affected police officers.
