Silver standard step up for in-Bloom team

-

MACCLESFIELD has been awarded a silver gilt in the Britain in Bloom Awards 2019.

It is the second time the town has entered the competition and the result is a step up from the silver medal achieved in 2018.

Judges were impressed by the displays installed by Macclesfield Town Council and also the hard work of volunteers who have helped improve the environment.

The result was made more impressive as Macclesfield was in the small city category (population over 50,000), which meant it was up against much bigger rivals.

During the judges visit, in July this year, sites visited included the Community Garden Centre, Heritage Walk, Water Street, Christ Church, Sparrow Park, and St Michael’s Church.

Businesses in the town centre were also inspected.

Pete Turner, town clerk of Macclesfield, said: “It was a lovely day to meet the judges and introduce them to the people who have been working so hard to add colour and brightness to the town.

“The judges seemed to really enjoy seeing all the displays, particularly the work of the volunteers and businesses.

“I would like to thank everyone who is taking the time and effort to help with the civic pride of the town.

“Next year we want to go for gold and we are looking for any volunteers, residents, businesses or groups who have ideas of how they can be part of Macclesfield in Bloom.

“We at the town council will happily help and support them in any way we can to bring some more colour to the town.”

Anyone interested in taking part can call the town council on 01625 374142 or email admin@macclesfield-tc. gov.uk.
