A new head to lead Kings into its £60m future
ANEW headmaster has been chosen to lead the King’s School into a new era at its £60m campus.
Governors have selected Jason Slack, current head at King Henry VIII School, in Coventry, to take over for the new academic year in 2020.
It will coincide with the school opening at its new site on Alderley Road, near Prestbury.
Mr Slack, a physicist, will take over from Dr Simon Hyde, who announced he was departing and taking up the role of secretary of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference earlier this year.
“It is an honour to be asked to lead King’s at such a momentous point in its history,” said Mr Slack.
“Joining the school as it moves to its new, £60-million state of the art facility is an opportunity that rarely occurs in the life of any school and represents the chance to make a huge difference for pupils and their families.
“I am really excited about what the future holds and looking forward to being a part of the wonderful community and getting started on the school’s next chapter.”
Mr Slack graduated from Durham University with a BSc in Physics and a PGCE in Physics and Science. He also holds an MA in Educational Management.
His first teaching post was at his current school and he spent five years as deputy head of Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield, before returning to King Henry VIII in 2010 as head.
Away from school Mr Slack plays violin for Warwick Symphony Orchestra, supports Leeds United and volunteers for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
He added: “However, my favourite pastime is definitely spending time with my wife, Lindsay, and our two daughters.”
Dr John Kennerley, chair of governors, said: “Jason is an outstanding and experienced headmaster.
“He is looking forward to the challenge of leading King’s into its very exciting future and, over the coming months, will be liaising closely with Dr Simon Hyde as well as meeting with staff, parents and pupils to ensure a smooth transition.”
