Amy’s Christmas role is a real beauty
ICE maiden Amy Coates is proving herself a skating star - having landed a role in a Christmas production.
The 13-year-old, a pupil at Macclesfield Academy, will appear in Sleeping Beauty on Ice, in Altrincham, over the festive season.
Amy, who lives in Macclesfield, only started skating three years ago when she won the Skating Stars beginners competition in 2016.
She received a pair of skates, free entry to an ice rink for a year and has never looked back.
Since then, the year nine pupil has competed and performed in many events and shows, winning a gold medal in the Spin, Spiral and Jump event in October.
The performance of ‘Sleeping Beauty on Ice’ is on Thursday, December 19, at Planet Ice in Altrincham.
Macclesfield Academy students have an improved library to use.
The upgrade has come thanks to a donation of £6,457 from the Co-op’s charity scheme where customers decide what cause receives the money.
The library is open during breaks and lunchtimes and also hosts an after school homework club.
Dr Julie Skarratt, who helped organise the library update, said: “The library is used every day by every department in the school.
“The homework club is particularly useful for students who want to improve their grades.
“It’s great to see that local people can really make a difference in the lives of our students.”
Deputy headgirl Leah Hanaghan and Deputy headboy Elliot Wiss visited the Co-ops in Thornton Grove and Ivymeade for celebration events where the money was handed over.
They were also able to explain to shoppers how the money is being used.
