MBBC trio collect hat-trick of wins

- BOXING

MBBC were back in action recently as they headed to Liverpool to take part in a Salisbury ABC show at Fusion Nightclub.

The fights came together after MBBC head coach and matchmaker Kevin Bradbury received a text asking if Joe and Noel Straw plus George Oliver would be available to box the following night as there had been some pull outs at the last minute.

The bouts were soon on, as Bradbury feels there is no use having a busy club if the kids aren’t always ready to box.

First up was George Oliver against unbeaten Martin Fabian.

From the moment the bell went George was on his game boxing like a seasoned professional, getting the measure of his opponent straight away and keeping to his boxing.

Martin was no push over but it was clear when the final bell went that this had been a class show as George schooled his opponent in the art of boxing.

At just 11 years of age his future is bright, and he secured the first unanimous decision win of the night for MBBC.

Next up was Noel Straw, who was fresh off of a controversial decision loss in Leeds the week before, so this time he was leaving nothing to chance.

His opponent was Taylor Pendorgast, and straight from the off Noel was putting pressure on his opponent who was a nice boxer as are all the kids from Salisbury ABC.

Noel’s work-rate was steady and relentless as he took the first round and again the second was very similar but with a bit more pressure as he increased his work rate.

The last round saw Noel up his game again and it wasn’t long before the Liverpool coaches could see their man was starting to fold and before the referee could stop the bout they threw in the towel, so Noel wins with a third round stoppage.

Last up was Noel’s big brother Joe Straw and his opponent was Lewis Donk.

This was an even bout on paper, so in round one it was a slow start as they tried to work each over out.

Donk was then picking up his work-rate as Straw picked his shots with more determination catching at will. Round two was heating up a bit as Donk pushed on, and the coaches were urging Straw to up his work-rate and not let Donk into the fight.

He did just that and proceeded to catch Donk with even more shots, so it was looking good going into the third as Straw increased his work again and was really drawing

Donk on, then countering and throwing flurries of shots which made him look impressive.

As the final bell rang it was looking good for a clean sweep and as expected Straw got a unanimous win. It was a fantastic night again for MBBC over in Liverpool, with three tremendous wins away from home which was impressive to say the least, so well done to team MBBC.
