MACCLESFIELD 4TH.... 41 OLD BEDIANS 2ND ......... 0

THERE’S nothing like a comprehensive win to generate euphoria in the changing room and the bar after the game.

After despatching Bedians it was the Christmas Party in Macclesfield with the players sporting their Xmas jumpers in preparation for painting the town blue!

Star of the team this week was Scott Goodfellow – he was involved in everything: the rucks and mauls, running purposefully, carrying the ball powerfully and creating many turnovers; and in Smith’s words was a colossus around the field. This was the fourth team’s fifth successive win and the fourth week when they’ve kept a clean sheet.

Scotty teamed up with Simon Street and Jack Pearce in the back row, in front of them Rob McLeod and once again Jack Nicholson scoring another try. It appears as if Jack scores every week, what a debut season he’s enjoying. In the front row Jason Walker and Lewis Jones propped Rufus Dixon, who scored a try on his return to action.

The forwards were too strong in the scrums, eventually forcing Bedians to resort to unopposed scrummages. Playing like this they are the equal to any side in the league.

Paul and Nick Smith at numbers 9 and 10 were integrally involved as the link between forwards and backs, for Michael Moore and Jim Parsons to both score tries and with

Pat Ellis bagging a brace. Bill Latham on the other wing and Tom Cruiz completed the back three.

Coming off the bench were: Mark Bowden, Jordan Wilson and Richard Hogg to vary the attacking options behind the scrum and Steve Leonard and Dominic McCarthy also coming on to augment the forwards. Steve is very good at covering the ground, however no-one accuses McCarthy of needlessly running about - but with ball in hand he’s never easy to stop.

Captain Bostock supplied the post match dressing room beer. It’s the first time this season he’s not been on the pitch with the lads but was still excited at the win. He said: “It’s imperative to maintain this rich vein of masterful rugby when we entertain Bowdon in the cup next week.”
