Plymouth gaffer Lowe’s sympathy for Silkmen

RYAN Lowe has admitted he does not know whether Plymouth Argyle’s postponed away game against Macclesfield Town will be rearranged or they will be awarded three points instead by the EFL.

The fixture was called off at 9pm on Friday – just 18 hours scheduled the kick-off – because of safety concerns over Macclesfield’s Moss Rose ground.

The local Safety Advisory Group served a zero capacity notice on the Cheshire club, who are in the grip of a financial crisis.

Crewe Alexandra, was also postponed as their players protested over not being paid their wages.

The Argyle squad travelled to Cheshire on Friday and prepared as they would do for any away match. Lowe put his players through a training session on Saturday morning after the

Macclesfield fixture fell through. The Pilgrims’ boss knows all about the financial difficulties that seem to be hitting more and more clubs from his time at Bury, who eventually were expelled from the EFL in August. Now the fate of Macclesfield seems to be hanging in the balance too.

“I just hope it gets resolved one way or the other, not just for them but for the footballing world as well,” said Lowe.

“There are teams now who have had games postponed from them, the likes of us and Crewe.

“What happens there? No-one has said ‘you get the points’ or ‘it gets rearranged’. There are teams that have played them and lost or won. You just don’t know what needs to be done from it.

“For me, as a manager, I just want the best for the footballing world.”

Lowe added: “We just get told what to do. If the fixture gets rearranged, we have to turn up and play and that’s no issue.

“I feel for the Macclesfield players, and their manager and the coaching staff.

“They prepared right to play Plymouth Argyle but it’s out of their hands. If we have to go up there and play, then we have to go up there and play. That’s not a problem.”
