Silkmen thank staff ‘who refused to be beaten’ as match goes ahead
A HUGE debt of thanks has been given by Macclesfield Town after the Boxing Day game with Grimsby went ahead.
The match was played at the Moss Rose, and ended in a 1-1 draw, as the Silkmen had their safety certificate re-instated.
This followed ‘dedication and hardwork’ from a range of people to avoid a repeat of the previous Saturday when the match against Plymouth was postponed.
Bob Trafford, media manager for Town, said: “Macclesfield Town can confirm that our safety certificate has now been re-instated in full.
”This is as a result of the dedication and hard-work of the non-footballing staff who refused to be beaten, the support and advice received from Cheshire East Council and the incredible assistance given to us by the English Football League (EFL). “In addition to this, we would like to formally offer our most heartfelt thanks to the Silkmen Supporters Trust and
Taurus (who provide the matchday stewards) for their invaluable help throughout. Finally, a massive thank you to our loyal fans for their continued support through what has been a difficult time for us all.” The Silkmen await their fate following the postponement of the Plymouth game and, as a consequence, another EFL misconduct charge.
They have already been docked six points after the game against Crewe was also called off and player wages were not paid.
Another four point deduction was suspended and should this be enacted then the Silkmen - as things stand - would fall to the bottom of League Two.
Fans have also raised fears that the club’s finances could see it going the same way as Bury and drop out of the EFL.
It has been confirmed that the game against Plymouth has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 18, kick-of 7.45pm.
