Police appeal after assault victim dies
POLICE are continuing with a murder investigation following the death of a man, who has now been named.
Paul Cooke, 62, was found with serious injuries following an assault at an address on Brocklehurst Way, Tytherington, Friday, on December 20.
He was taken to Macclesfield Hospital where he died.
Detectives have arrested a man, 24, on suspicion of murder and he has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.
They have also appealed for information in a bid to find Mr
Cooke’s next of kin.
Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, from Cheshire Police, said: “Our investigation into Mr Cooke’s death remains ongoing.
“I want to reassure the community that while we continue to establish what has happened, I believe it to be an isolated incident. We are following various lines of enquiry and are appealing for anyone who may have any information that could help the investigation or could help us identify Mr Cooke’s next of kin to please get in touch.”
Following Mr Cooke’s death Cheshire East Councillor David Edwardes, who represents Tytherington, spoke of its effect on the community.
He said: “Obviously it was terrible news and we are very upset as a community.
”We are a very close community in Tytherington and people are very, very upset about it. We are like a family and we have lost one of our own just before Christmas.”
