Police appeal after assault victim dies

POLICE are continuing with a murder investigat­ion following the death of a man, who has now been named.

Paul Cooke, 62, was found with serious injuries following an assault at an address on Brocklehur­st Way, Tytheringt­on, Friday, on December 20.

He was taken to Macclesfie­ld Hospital where he died.

Detectives have arrested a man, 24, on suspicion of murder and he has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

They have also appealed for informatio­n in a bid to find Mr

Cooke’s next of kin.

Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, from Cheshire Police, said: “Our investigat­ion into Mr Cooke’s death remains ongoing.

“I want to reassure the community that while we continue to establish what has happened, I believe it to be an isolated incident. We are following various lines of enquiry and are appealing for anyone who may have any informatio­n that could help the investigat­ion or could help us identify Mr Cooke’s next of kin to please get in touch.”

Following Mr Cooke’s death Cheshire East Councillor David Edwardes, who represents Tytheringt­on, spoke of its effect on the community.

He said: “Obviously it was terrible news and we are very upset as a community.

”We are a very close community in Tytheringt­on and people are very, very upset about it. We are like a family and we have lost one of our own just before Christmas.”
