Family cook up a festive treat to help feed others

- ALEX SCAPENS

AKINDHEARTED family had an epic kitchen session cooking Christmas dinner - for 30 people.

Lisa Whalley, 40, from Hurdsfield, decided to deliver a festive meal to people who either spent the day alone or would be unable to cook for themselves.

She enlisted the help of her team of ‘little elves’ - daughters Atlanta, 12, and Talia, 10, son Jai, eight, and her cousin’s daughter Emily Bull, 11.

Together they spent Christmas Eve peeling, chopping and cooking food before delivering to homes across Macclesfield.

The recipients, many of whom were elderly, could then heat it up the next day.

Lisa, of Delamere Drive, works as a carer for SureCare and was then on duty Christmas morning.

She said: “It got me thinking some people out there don’t have anyone on Christmas Day. There’s people on their own or couples who wouldn’t be able to make one.

“We started the preparation at 9am and delivered the last meal at 7pm, we never stopped in between. After I’d had my own meal on Christmas Day I didn’t move off the sofa.

“The kids were overwhelmed by the people we delivered to, it really opened their eyes.”

Lisa had done a similar thing last year.

But for 2019 she extended it and posted on Facebook urging people to get in touch if they knew anyone in need.

SureCare provided the ingredients for her huge cooking session and there were also further donations from Hulley Road Garage and the Co-op on London Road.

Lisa said: “We just wanted to give something back, a lot of the people we delivered to fought in the war. They were absolutely made up.

“The only thing we asked for was a smile on delivery and we certainly got that. Hopefully we’ll do it again next year.”
