Pride in defeat for Daryl

-

MACCLESFIELD Town head coach Daryl McMahon insists he was proud of his side’s performance despite their 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers on Sunday.

Farrend Rawson scored a late winner for the home side at the New Lawn, meaning the Silkmen were condemned to defeat against the play-off contenders.

The defeat left Macc in 22nd place ahead of the New Year’s Day fixtures, two points above the relegation zone, but McMahon was pleased with his team’s display.

“I was disappointed on Boxing Day with our performance against Grimsby, I thought we were poor – I was happier after Forest Green because even though we lost, the performance itself gave us something to build on. I thought every man who went onto the pitch was superb – we’ve come to one of the most fancied sides in the division and we’ve given them a real game and I was proud of the boys.

“We put our bodies on the line as we always do. This is a side who will finish in the top three when the season finishes. They have some very good players and they are built to go into the next division – in terms of their infrastructure off the pitch, they are a million miles from where we are, but I don’t think you could see that on the pitch.

Macc were set to return to action this afternoon – New

Year’s Day – as they were due to make the trip to Port Vale.

Ahead of the game, Port Vale were in 10th position, having won eight, drawn ten and lost six of their games so far this season.

Following the match with Port Vale, the Silkmen will then welcome Cambridge to the Moss Rose on Saturday.
