Fans group in plea to hold off Premier cash

-

THE Silkmen Supporters Trust has taken the bold step of requesting the Premier League withholds money from Macclesfield Town.

Supporters trust chairman Andy Worth has written to Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters to ask for a £225,000 solidarity payment, believed to be due this month, to be directed elsewhere - claiming it is in the long-term interest of the club.

His email statement outlines the Silkmen’s off-pitch struggles throughout the past 12 months.

It says: “We are aware that the Premier League make solidarity payments to EFL clubs twice a year and in normal circumstances we believe that Macclesfield Town would receive £225,000 early in the new year.

“The purpose of me writing to you is to provide an earnest plea to you to withhold this payment.

“We also wonder if these funds could possibly be redirected to an appropriate source in order to ensure that the monies can be used directly for the benefit of Macclesfield Town Football Club.

“We therefore respectfully request your careful consideration of our plea to withhold the solidarity payment.”

The trust also says it has been in contact with ‘two very interested parties in recent weeks’ to help broker a deal where one of them buys the club from owner Amar AlKadhi.

It would rather the money be available for any new owner to use.

Attempts are being made to hold an extraordinary general meeting with Mr AlKadhi in attendance to answer questions about the running of the club.

Both the Premier League and Macclesfield Town have been contacted for comment.
