DONATIONS FOR DOGS

-

ON behalf of Cheshire charity, Erin Hounds, a huge thank you to everyone who kindly donated to our street collection in Macclesfield town centre in December.

Thanks to amazing generosity at Christmas, we raised the fabulous sum of £728.80 which will make a big difference as we save dogs’ lives this winter.

Erin Hounds rescues greyhounds and lurchers from the West of Ireland, working with the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals in County Galway.

Lots of dogs we help are young, found as strays, rescued from pounds or seized as neglect cases.

Happily homed dogs who came to say hello during our collection included one found wounded and barely surviving in a cold shed, plus three ‘tripawds’ (road accident; abject cruelty; untreated racing injury).

It is always wonderful to see the difference safety, good food and love makes and watch these animals blossom in their forever homes!

Sadly, the Irish government has seen fit to agree 2020 funding for the Irish greyhound racing industry despite major media exposes, including the large number of puppies and young dogs annually put to sleep, and woefully inadequate welfare.

The figure allocated for combined greyhound and

. horse racing is around four times more than for shelters for homeless people and those affected by domestic violence in Eire.

This is why charities like ours work tirelessly 365 days a year. And we simply couldn’t do it without our growing network of supporters and the kindness of strangers.

So thank you Macclesfield for your ongoing support – it means a lot.

Any readers wishing to express an interest in adopting or fostering should please see our website www.erinhounds. co.uk and we can be found on Facebook.

We are also happy to talk to companies about corporate sponsorship and local schools about educational visits.
