Taking chances will yield success

-

MACCLESFIELD Town striker Joe Ironside insists his team need to increase their ability in front of goal if they are to find success this season.

Ironside recently netted in the away match with Port Vale on New Year’s Day, with the Silkmen earning a point after a 2-2 draw at Vale Park.

It is the only time in Macc’s last 11 league games that they have managed to score more than one goal in a match, and Ironside knows that have to improve.

“We went into half time against Port Vale 1-0 down but we knew that we could get back into the game, then we’ve come back out and put ourselves in front. However, we didn’t keep hold of the game and we’ve come away with the draw,” he said. “It could’ve been more than a point, I thought we played brilliantly. We kept hold of the ball well, we moved it around well and created some clear cut chances.

“Obviously not all of the efforts have gone in, but it’s encouraging we scored twice because as a team, we need to score more goals. The defence has been doing their job but the more goals that we score, the bigger chance we have of winning games.

“The busy festive period is part of football, so we just roll our sleeves up and we get through it. You want to play games and that’s what we’ve been doing, but hopefully now we’ll pick up some more points.

“The Silkmen fans were brilliant against Port Vale. They’ve travelled in their numbers, and we really needed them. They helped us get in front but sadly we’ve only come away with a point. They’re top fans.”

Ironside joined Macc in the summer, after previous spells at the likes of Sheffield United, Kidderminster,

Nuneaton and Alfreton
