Danny’s Silkmen are ‘magnificent’ M

-

ACCLESFIELD Town caretaker manager Danny Whitaker described his team as ‘magnificent’ after their 1-0 win over Cambridge United on

Saturday. Arthur Gnahoua’s goal after five minutes was enough to earn the Silkmen the win, in their first match since the departure of boss Daryl McMahon.

Club legend Whitaker has been placed in temporary charge, and he was delighted with what he saw from his Macclesfield players.

“We have been here before, early in the season so it’s nothing new, but I thought the lads were magnificent from one to eleven; and the subs who came on towards the end put their all into it and they got their just rewards in the end,” he said.

“They have proved that in the past with the results they have churned out with the ongoing issues off the field and what have you that everyone is aware of.

“It’s full credit to them. It’s just another tick in the box for the lads and fair play to them, they have stuck at it, and they have got the results and the three points and hopefully it will kick-start the season.

“It’s a young group and that means one thing, they are fearless, and they get on with it. They just want to work hard, learn and try and progress and that’s pretty much what we have got.

“We have got a few older heads in there who try and steady the ship, which they have done. Towards the end we were under siege and they dug in and have got what they deserve.

“We looked at Cambridge and saw that they start games slow, so we made the lads well aware that we needed to get at them from the off, and they did that so it was absolutely brilliant and I was more than happy with that.

“Sometimes you have got to do different things and look at things differently and he [Arthur Gnahoua] has done that, and it has paid off, and I can’t thank him enough for that.

“It was a tricky one because there are no two halves of football that are ever the same.

“You have to keep in mind that they are probably going to make a change, which they did, and then the game is going to potentially swing the other way, so it is just a case of keeping your feet on the ground and telling them to keep doing what they are doing.

“The lads coped with everything they threw at us, because they are not a bad outfit, and like I say three points in the bag.

“It just shows the desire and the willingness of the lads to keep going and not sit back and try and get on the front foot and try and keep attacking.”
