Victory over ‘trip hazard’ potholes
RESIDENTS appear to have finally won the battle to get ‘trip hazard’ pot holes filled in at their communal garages.
The group live on Stirling Close, Macclesfield and say the surface of the garage access area is dangerously uneven - and has been for a decade.
Many of them are elderly or disabled and their longstanding complaint was featured in the Macclesfield Express last month.
And now housing provider Peaks and Plains - from whom residents rent the garages - has said the necessary work will done.
A spokesman said: “In 2019 we completed a full survey of all our garage sites and identified Stirling Close as one that we will be investing in this year as part of our cyclical maintenance programme.
“We will be resurfacing the road that leads to the garages and ensuring any existing potholes are repaired.
“Any residents that have concerns or queries are welcome to contact us directly to discuss the work’s schedule and the timeline we have put in place for its completion.” Among those demanding action was David Longden, 54, who said the area was left with large puddles every time it rains.
And he had even paid to get a ramp installed to his garage as the surface around it had broken up.
David described the site by saying: “It’s like an assault course. It is a trip hazard and lethal after dark.
“The potholes are very large and getting deeper by the years.
“Someone will fall and have a nasty accident. We are getting quite fed up and also getting wet feet every time we go to our cars.
“We spend hours sweeping rain away before going in and out of garages.”
