Smart way for firms to add to their tech

- ALEX SCAPENS

BUSINESSES in Macclesfield are among those to benefit from a programme to help firms adopt new technology.

Art Graphics UK and Lowlife Product, both in Bollington, as well as Plastic Card Services, on Larkwell Way, Macclesfield, have been part of the pilot scheme.

It is called Made Smarter North West and it works with small and medium sized manufacturers to provide advice, training, support and digital roadmapping workshops.

The idea is for businesses to increase productivity and revenue by adopting new technology.

The Macclesfield firms are among 62 to have been helped by the scheme during its first year.

Donna Edwards, programme director for Made Smarter, said: “Over the last year the Made Smarter team has engaged with hundreds of makers from every corner of the region.

“We have found a great enthusiasm about the benefits of adopting new digital technology tempered by uncertainty of how to go about it.

“It’s clear that firms need the specialist advice and insight to help them select the right approach for their business, how much to invest and which technologies will bring the greatest benefits.”

The programme runs until March 2021 and is open to businesses that employ fewer than 250 staff and that make, create, manufacture or engineer.

Andy Devaney, from the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, said “Made Smarter has helped a huge range of manufacturers in their digitisation journey.

“As a result of the support, these businesses have embraced new types of technologies and advanced processes.”
