Centre appeal gets a big race partner
FUNDRAISERS can get their running shoes on in the Wilmslow Half Marathon, for which the Christie has been named the partner charity.
The Macclesfield version of the event doesn’t take place until September but its cousin just down the road will be held on March 15.
The cancer centre, which is raising £23m to open in Macclesfield, is encouraging people to take part on its behalf.
And given the race is on almost a year to the day since the huge plans were announced, what better time to mark the first anniversary of the Christie at Macclesfield appeal than to raise money for it.
To get a place running for the Christie a minimum of £200 in sponsorship must be raised.
People who have a place independently are also welcome to join
Team Christie.
The event, which also has 10km and fun run events, has its headquarters at Wilmslow RUFC, on Kings Road.
The half marathon starts at 10.30am.
A spokesman for the Christie said: “The mainly flat route incorporates the beautiful Cheshire countryside. It’s an ideal route for first time half-marathoners, or seasoned pros looking for a personal best. Join Team Christie and you can help us to make a real difference to the lives of cancer patients and their families.
“By taking part in this event, you’ll be helping us to build the Christie at Macclesfield, a new centre designed to bring cancer care closer to home in East Cheshire.”
