Shrigley and Macc Seniors miss out

THE Manchester and District Seniors League has had a busy and enjoyable season, despite some poor weather conditions.

There were 17 clubs in the mix divided into North, Central and South zones playing in the three divisions.

The aim was to finish in the top two to play in the Finals Day for the Champions Trophy.

Brookdale were fine hosts of the event, led by President Paul Deighton, that saw each of the six qualifying clubs fielding four pairs in a BB Stableford with the aggregate score counting towards the destiny of the trophy.

The winning zone clubs taking part were North Houldswort­h and Dukinfield, Central Marple and New Mills and South Shrigley Hall and Macclesfie­ld.

New Mills were clear winners with their team of Robert Palmer and Graham Hadfield, Keith Wright and Trevor Jones, John Tennant and Ian Harding and Simon Belt and Peter Coull racking up a fine haul of 115 points.

It left them well clear of Shrigley Hall 110, Macclesfie­ld 110, Dukinfield 108, Houldswort­h 107 and Marple 97.

The top individual score of 44 points was posted by Dukinfield’s Graham Barrett and Steve Maguire.

The latest Winter League at Avro was a close contest with John Isherwood winning a cpo on 38 points from Mike Thornber and Tim Bochenski and Ian Anderson were only a point off their pace.

A second Winter League Stableford at Avro saw Kenneth Marrin cruise to victory with 38 points from Derek Jones 35 and Vic Tarr 32.

Davenport’s men enjoyed a 123 Team Stableford and none more thanthe hot trio of

G Boon, B Smith and D Hall who posted a winning score of 55 points to edge out W Dudley-Brown, S Lewis and M Hillier and P Robinson, C Bamford and D Slater. both 54 and I Ashcroft.. G Winstanley and J Weaver 53.

Medal action at Mottram Hall had David Deans going clickety click to lead in from Rick Francis 67, Daine Johnson 69 and Peter Smith 70.

Winter League action at Sharigley Hall saw Jack Bennett in charge with 40 points and hot on his heels with 39 were Graeme Nimmo, Alan Davidson, John Gaskell, Andrew

Brereton and Sunil Meha.

The Thursday Stableford at Shrigley saw Peter Whitehurst out on his own with 40 points from Steven Holroyd 38, club legend Howard Rowley 36 and Roger White 34.

A Saturday Stableford at Styal had in-form Patrick Sharrocks topping division one with 41 points from Steve James 40 and Mike McGuigan 39.

In division two it was close with Brent Vose first past the post with 33 points just one clear of Kevin Bocquet, Andrew Murray and Kevin Doherty with Neil Brownhill and Richard Armstead, both on 30.
