Under 14s fly through tough Crewe test
CREWE STORM U14S .... 1 MTL U14S .......................... 1
IN the first match back after the Christmas break, Macc faced a daunting test against a Crewe side who had won every game this season and defeated Macc 5-0 back in September.
However, Macc produced their best display of the season with every player having their performance of the season.
The attacking Macc side soon had Crewe on the back foot and played most of the first period in the Crewe half.
They were soon rewarded with a goal by Jade Ashton, although Crewe were still very dangerous with their fast, counter attacking football.
A bobbly pitch made life hard in front of goal for both sides and Macc were really unfortunate not to extend the lead before half time.
The second half continued in a similar vein until Crewe equalised with a speculative long ball, catching Macc out and allowing the Crewe attacker in behind the defence to finish despite Laura Slater almost saving the shot.
A few more chances went begging for Macc who fully deserved a win but had to settle for a point.
Every player can be proud of the result and how far they’ve come since September and this result should give them the belief to fear nobody. It takes their unbeaten stretch to over three months.
Girl of the game went to Jade Ashton for a tireless shift on the left wing, regularly carving the Crewe defence apart whilst also doubling back to support her defence all game
MTL U18S .......................... 2 CROSFIELD ...................... 5
POOR finishing and sloppy defending saw the under 18s concede three goals before Lily Ogden pulled one back before half time.
Some half time tactical changes saw Macc dominate the opening part of the second half and a deflected Lily
Ogden shot brought the score back to 3-2.
The same player then came close to equalising with a long range shot that hit the bar.
The team looked vulnerable after the loss of Joelle McGann and were punished by Crosfield who went on to win 5-2
