It’s party time as great-gran hits 100
AGREAT- GRANDMOTHER who has lived in the same house for nearly 70 years has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mary Clayton, of Bollington Lane, Bollington, marked the milestone with a party at the Turners, on Ingersley Road.
She also had a visit Councillor Angela Williams and Mayor of Bollington Tony Edwards, on Wednesday, January 15, the big day itself, as well as a card from the Queen.
Mary moved into her home in 1953 with her husband James, who sadly died in 1983, and still lives there with son Chris, 68, and daughter Sheila, 78.
Chris said: “She is very friendly, outgoing and caring, she has looked after people all her life.”
Mary was born in Stockport and worked as a cotton spinner in Clarence Mill and Oliver’s Mill.
She would cycle to work from Hazel Grove and the latter place was where she met her husband, who she married in 1941.
Originally the couple moved to Adlington Road before settling on Bollington Road. Mary also worked at Halle Models, in Macclesfield.
Even as she became more elderly, Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening and holidays in Tenerife.
She also has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Coun Williams, who is secretary of the senior citizens welfare committee, said: “Mary is nice natured and a bit of a character.
“A lot of people went to the party and visited at home and she was thrilled to bits.”
Coun Williams and Mayor Edwards brought
Mary flowers and champagne to help her celebrate in style.
