Frances enjoys her 2020 vision

CHESHIRE Ladies Golf Associatio­n’s new Captain Frances Gell is relishing the upcoming year in her role which will see exciting new initiative­s introduced for members of Cheshire clubs.

Frances said: “2020 is going to be an exciting year. At their AGM the Cheshire Senior Ladies Golf Associatio­n voted to merge with CCLGA so we are looking forwarding to progressin­g that. “WHS workshops have been arranged by Cheshire County for all Cheshire club representa­tives, and we are also holding the Northern Foursomes at Bromboroug­h on 14-17 April 14-17.

“Mostly though I would really like to promote the Talent Pathway and Junior Golf organised by CCLGA for the nurturing of juniors and friendship­s, and hopefully build on Cheshire’s success at winning the Junior Jamboree at York in August. You don’t have to be an elite golfer to enjoy what CCLGA have to offer!”

A seniors Stableford at Avro was won by Tim Bochenski after a cpo on 36 points with Derek Jones, two more than Jim McKie.

The latest round of the Simister Cup at Alderley Edge was won by Gary Johnstone with 20 points, two more than Joe Yakub, Andrew Slater and Gordon Stewart.

It was very close for Edge ladies in a 9-hole Stableford with Jean Walker winning a cpo on 16 points from Mary O’Toole and Yvonne Grundy with Fiona Anderson, Janette Smith and Barbara Evans a point off the pace.

Davenport ladies were in a (hole Team Stableford and well clear at the top of the shop were M Page, M Hurst and K Grindey with 42 points, six more than P Hague, J Dearnaley and S Luther and D Silva, C Howard and D Green.

Mottram Hall’s men had their dancing shoes on in a FourBall Cha Cha Cha and winning over the judges with 86 points were S Sewell, N Duckworth, P Draper and M Richardson.

They were two points clear of A Watson, M Humphries, R O’Keefe and G Roche with S Smith, A Stubbens, M Saunders and D Johnson next in with 83.

The latest Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall was won at a canter by Mark Klennhans with 37 points from Will Osbaldesto­n and John Hogan, both 34 and Ray Haddock 33.

Jack Bennett was also in a league of his own in the monthly Stableford at Shrigley as he posted a huge 46 points to lead in division one by six points from David Reddy and Gary Bresnahan.

There was also some good scoring in division two with Sunil Mehta on top with 44 points from Steve Henshall 43 and Gary Wood 40.

Mike Hinde was in magic form as he led in a Styal Seniors Winter League Stableford with 35 points, two more than David Hollick and Paul Lawday.

The Saturday Stableford at Styal had Jeffrey Chadwick top of division one after a cpo on 38 points with Ismael Mury and club legend Ivan Bloor was next in with 34.

In division two Chris Harris led in with 35 points from Andrew Murray and Brian Donlehan, both 33 and Mark Robins and Ian Barber, both 32.

The Styal Sunday Stableford had Mike Wild out on his own with 40 points from Sam Pilley and Jeffrey Chadwick, both 36 and Ken Mayoh 35.

The latest Styal Ladies Winter League Stableford was won by Mel Hill with 20 points from Enid Laverty 16 and Helen Billington 15.
